What's included
The trial lesson is designed for you to have fun,and to familiarise you with the aircraft including safety and the flight controls, whilst taking in the stunning Derbyshire scenery.
With more than 3,000 in the UK, microlights are the largest single group of light aviation aircraft in the World and flexwing (weight-shift)microlights like the one you could fly originated from NASA's manned space flight programme!
After all kinds of experimentation, the forerunners of the modern flexwing microlight took to the skies in the early 1970s. Since then, wing and airframe/engine technology has moved on rapidly.
In the last few years microlights have circumnavigated the globe and set new world records. Despite their fragile appearance, modern microlight aircraft are incredibly strong and have one of the best safety records in leisure aviation.
The experience - on arrival you will be greeted by your instructor in the clubhouse and given a pre-flight briefing. Then on with flight suits, intercoms, helmets and off to the Flexwing microlight for a quick look around. Into the back seat strapped in, the instructor does preflight checks radios for flight information, engine start up, taxi to hold point of runway line up and off we go...
The engine starts. You start to move along the runway and feel the wind underneath the visor of your helmet. Then, after just a few metres, the whole thing suddenly rises up into the air and you're flying!
Once airborne at a safe height, you will have the opportunity to take control of the aircraft and fly yourself.
The sensation of flight in a microlight is quite unlike anything else you will ever experience. It is probably the nearest thing to what the earliest days of flying must have been like; slow flight at relatively low altitudes in an open cockpit where you're almost completely exposed to the elements - the view from the cockpit is unbeliev
