What's included
Gliding is one of the most exhilarating ways of getting in the air. With a motor glider you have the best of both worlds. An engine when you need it and the sensation of almost silent flight when weather conditions permit.
On arrival you will have an individual briefing of the aircraft before donning a headset and getting strapped in.
The Slingsby T61F features side by side seating so the instructor will point out the various controls and instruments as he goes through his primary checks. Close the canopy and taxi to the runway for pre-take off checks.
On receiving departure clearance you will climb out slowly over the Vale of Belvoir possibly overflying Belvoir Castle the seat of the Duke of Rutland and the setting for the film Young Victoria. The instructor will demonstrate the effects of controls instruments and 'circuit' procedures and then when it is safe to do so you will be encouraged to take the controls of the aircraft under the direction of the instructor. Don't worry if you prefer to relax and just sit back and take some pictures.
If weather conditions permit, we soar in currents of rising air, sometimes sharing thermals with Buzzards and Red Kites.
We have no specific provision in any of our aircraft for disabled persons but as a guide if you can get in and out of the bath unaided you'll probably be able to get into a glider.
Compact cameras can be taken on the flight but they must have a secure wrist strap.
We have a bright modern clubhouse with full disabled facilities. Limited snacks and refreshments are available both at the clubhouse and at the launchpoint at weekends, otherwise tea, coffee canned drinks crisps etc.
In Summer bring light clothes, sun hat ,sun cream and sun glasses, in Winter -warm and wind proof clothing.
